A couple who tragically lost their baby girl before her first birthday have funded another child’s care at the hospice where she died.

Rosie Mei Lavin died at Haven House Children’s Hospice, in Woodford Green, in October 2013.

After she was born in March she seemed healthy but soon became very ill.

She suffered from severe epileptic seizures - a side-effect of an undiagnosed neurological condition.

Her first months were spent undergoing medical tests but six months after her birth, doctors gave her parents Yuen Yau and Kevin Lavin the devastating news that there was nothing more they could do.

Rosie was transferred from Great Ormond Street Hospital to Haven House, in High Road, so her family could spend time with her in her last few days.

Yuen and Kevin, of Chigwell, stayed in the hospice’s family accommodation and her grandparents, family and friends visited.

Rosie died just three days after she arrived with her parents by her side.

Despite their pain, the couple said they cherished their time at the hospice and decided to raise money for its work.

Yuen said: “Being at Haven House meant Kevin and I could make the most of every moment with our beautiful baby girl.

“We were able to have bath and play time without her being attached to machines at the hospital.”

They have raised an incredible £5,730 to date and in memory of Rosie, they used some of it to fund another child’s care.

On what would have been their daughter’s first birthday, March 28, £3,835 was used to “pay for a day” at the hospice.

Chief executive Mike Palfreman said Rosie’s death was a “very sad day”.

He added: “We are incredibly touched that Yuen and Kevin have chosen to commemorate her birthday by donating to Haven House and that her memory will support other life-limited children and families in the area.”
