The council are set to increase patrols at a housing block after reports of anti-social behaviour and teens smoking drugs.

One resident was even threatened with a baseball bat.

Paul Bansal, 43, said that he has lived at John Barker House, Pelham Road, Ilford, for 14 years, and that in the past month the anti-social behaviour has got worse and worse.

He said that he has reported numerous incidents to both the police and the council but said that no action has been taken.

Mr Bansal told the Recorder: “There are people smoking cannabis outside of my flat every single day.

“It has got beyond a joke now.

“I don’t feel safe in my own house.

“I have even tried to take it into my own hands but on one occasion I was threatened by another resident with a baseball bat when I tried to speak to them.”

There are 25 other residents in the council-owned block and he said that he isn’t the only one to complain to the council about the problems.

Redbridge Council has now said that its enforcement team will increase the number of patrols at the block of flats, and that it will work with the police to try and create a safer environment.

The Met Police has said that this is an ongoing matter which is being dealt with seriously by local officers.

A spokeswoman from the council said: “We are very sorry to hear of anti-social behaviour in the block and we will be visiting the estate and door knocking to discuss residents’ concerns directly with them.

“We will also inform the police Safer Neighbourhoods Team and liaise with our enforcement team to ensure that more patrols take place on the estate to reassure residents and help create a safer environment.”

A Met Police spokeswoman said: “This is an ongoing matter which is being dealt with seriously by the local policing team.

“They have continued to work with the community using all powers and resources at their disposal to address the communities concerns.

“They will continue to work with the community to resolve these issues”
