The hard working volunteers picked more than 20 bags of litter and five bags of recycling.

The group of almost 20 people wanted to encourage the community to take responsibility to keep their neighbourhoods rubbish free.

Zulfikar Somji, franchisee of the McDonald’s in High Road, said: “It was great to see everyone from the Ilford area come together to take action against litter and I’d like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work.

“We are keen to actively discourage littering, community events like this one help make a big impact on the local area.

“When local businesses like mine and community groups work together we are able to achieve so much more and this event is a perfect example of this.”

McDonald’s has a four year partnership with the mayor of London, Boris Johnson’s Capital Clean-up programme.
