Blossoming bluebells are being embraced by a Wanstead community group as summer draws closer.

In anticipation of an impressive bluebell display, Friends of Wanstead Parklands held a Bluebell Day in Wanstead Park on Sunday (April 11).

More than thirty people took part in a guided walk through the flora and fauna of the park.

Twenty families also took part in a volunteer-run nature club involving stories, crafts and a walk through the woods.

Jo Blackman, vice chairwoman of the group, said: “Everyone’s looking forward to an extra special display of bluebells this year.

The group believe that the bluebells will be “more impressive than ever this year,” thanks to recent rainfall.

Jo added: “We were delighted to organise two events for those who wanted to learn a bit more about the park and its nature.

“We’re grateful to our fantastic team of volunteers and ongoing support and interest from the local community.”
