A retired GP and yoga teacher flexed her fundraising muscles in Ilford yesterday.

Dr Surdashan Kapur, 77, of The Drive, South Woodford, held a Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning after her yoga class at the Panjabi Centre in Ley Street.

Five women brought along some tasty vegetarian food from home for sponsorship by the other ladies in the class.

The 46-strong class raised £240 for the charity.

After an hour of Yoga and Pranayam Dr Kapur gave a talk about why fundraising for Macmillan is important.

Dr Kapur said: “They don’t just do the medical part of treatment, they do the emotional part too.

“It’s a big shock for the family when they discover they have cancer, and Macmillan give so much moral support and financial help too.

“The amount of work they are doing is tremendous.”

Dr Kapur added that after witnessing the work Macmillan Cancer Support do first-hand in her role as a doctor, it had “touched [her] heart.”
