Staff and children in Woodford Green took part in the world’s biggest coffee morning and then dressed up for the day as their favourite Roald Dahl characters.

Avon House School in High Road, Woodford Green, joined in with Macmillan Cancer Support’s fundraising event by holding a coffee morning on Friday.

People across the UK took part in similar events, which raised £10m in 2011.

School cooks Maria Rogers, Chris Fitzgerald and Tracy Walker made 150 cup cakes and bread pudding, which raised £301.

Children and staff had arrived resembling characters from Dahl’s stories too.

They donated £2 each for the privilege with proceeds going to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

The school playground was awash with Oompa-Loompas, Fantastic Mr Foxes and witches.

Headteacher Amanda Campbell said: “The dress up day is a wonderfully fun and creative way to raise money for specialist nurses, care and equipment for children with rare neurological and blood conditions.”
