Jazz, soul, and stringed sounds are to fill the air at the club’s next concert.

Latin soul trio River Bird and harp specialists The Happy Couple are to perform at the club’s second concert of the month.

The upcoming performance at the RAFA Club in Cranbrook Road, Ilford, mark seven years since the group started putting on performances

Event organiser Steve Collins said: “People can look forward to excellent musicians, brilliant, high quality entertainment and a friendly, intimate atmosphere.”

The show takes place tomorrow (Fri) at 7.30pm. Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for children.

Redbridge Gingerbread

The group for single parents got together to get free legal advice and makeovers.

The group, which meet once a month, offered parents some down time with a free nail bar before getting free parenting advice.

About 45 parents got to discuss issues and socialise at the event held in Ilford in partnership with the City Gates church.

Gingerbread organiser Helen Kunda said: “It was really good – I think events like this are really important because there are a lot of single parents who feel isolated and helpless.

“Everyone’s in the same boat here and it’s about creating shared experiences within the community.”

Friends of Valentines Mansion

There will be music and festive cheer as the group host its Christmas event tomorrow (Fri).

The group, which supports and assists in the preservation of the historic Ilford mansion, is due to host singers Ann Ross and John Manuel, trumpet player Daniel Walton, keyboardist Philip Norman and the St Joseph’s Convent School choir at the event.

Tickets cost £10 for members and £12 for non-members for the musical extravaganza, which kicks off at 7.30pm at Valentines Mansion in Emerson Road, Ilford.

Ilford Historical Society

Find out about Ilford’s famous furniture business at the group’s Christmas social on Monday.

Speaker Janet Plimmer is due to talk about the historic Harrison Gibson shop that used to take pride and place in the area when it operated in High Road.

Guests will also be able to consume mince pies and wine as they take on a society quiz.

The event takes place on Monday at the Ilford Hospital Chapel in Ilford Hill, Ilford, at 7.30pm. There is a £2 entry fee for non-members.
