One lucky volunteer, who was “over the moon” to even be involved in the Olympic Games, got the chance to watch the Opening Ceremony inside the stadium.

Harry Sanger, 45, of Herent Drive, Clayhall found out he would be able to watch the opening to the show only a matter of hours before it was due to start on Friday.

He said: “It was brilliant. I couldn’t resist taking pictures on the night because I couldn’t believe the spectacle that I was seeing.

“People were gob smacked by the show and everyone around me were saying how amazing the ceremony was. I can’t imagine how any other Games will be able to beat it.

“My favourite part was the cauldron being lit up by the Olympic Torches which took my breath away. That got the biggest cheer of all, but the whole thing was unbelievable.

Mr Sanger, who likened the atmosphere to a football match, added: “It was truly unique show and the instant reaction from the audience was excitable and amazed.”

Part of Mr Sanger’s role at the Olympics is helping people find the correct sporting venues which will see him work at several events across the capital.
