Lying in her cot baby Sue Breen saw a figure coming towards her.

As she reached out to grabthem, her finger skimmed the air where their hands should have been.

After that she didn’t like looking out of her cot and used to hide in the corner – her dad joking with her that her face would become triangle shaped if she kept crouching there.

She didn’t fully understand what she was seeing and her parents thought Sue had an overactive imagination and imaginary friend.

It was only when she got older, she says, that she realised she could “see spirits”.

She said she was visited by her grandfather aged eight but didn’t want to explore her gift until she was older as “not everything you see is nice”.

Now 64, Sue gives readings for charity days, events and for radio shows and she will also be at the Valentines Mansion, Emerson Road, Ilford for the Mind, Body and Spirit Fair on Sunday, February 11.

Ahead of the event she kindly agreed to perform a session with me over the phone.

As soon as I came off deadline for the paper I rushed into
the big boss’s private office to speak with Sue.

If she was a good as they say I didn’t want to reveal the depths of my soul in front of a room
of journalists – or in front of a room full of anyone to be perfectly honest.

As her number rang I wondered how effective an over the phone reading would be?

Surely to connect with someone and tap into their energy you would need to be in the same room at least?

As Sue picked up, we started to chat for a few minutes before beginning the reading.

She said a gentleman on my dad’s side had stepped forward and did I know anyone with
the name H?

I mentally weaved through the branches of my family tree but couldn’t recall anyone.

I panicked, I so wanted her
to be good so I could give her a nice write-up but I wouldn’t
lie about her abilities if they weren’t true.

Maybe the telephone wires had got crossed in the ether and she was actually performing a reading for the boss – which would be extremely awkward.

“Don’t worry if you don’t get the reference straight away,
it will come to you when you finish,” she said.

Sue then abruptly sniffed and named something that I had given up since Christmas.

Not so much of a New Year’s resolution – I am not going to stop or take up anything simply because the world had turned around once on its axis – but a decision to make a life change.

I was shocked that she got it spot on as I had not told anyone I was doing it, not even my family and closest friends.

I then relaxed in her company and for the next 40 minutes, we had an intimate conversation about my life, covering everything from jobs, love and those closest to me.

I also received a personal messaged from someone who passed over. Not only did Sue say it in the exact same way they would have said it but she mentioned references that you would only know if you grew up in my family.

After the session, it took me a while to process everything and I was both intrigued and overwhelmed in a good way.

Sue who runs the website,
said she enjoys helping people with her gift and is excited to be at the Valentines Mansion Mind, Body and Spirit Fair between 10am and 4pm.

Hardip Sohal, of Valentines Mansion, said: “With a mixture of over 25 stalls offering readings, treatments, and retail, it’s sure to be a great day out.

“With Valentine’s Day just a few days after, why not pop along and pick up a thoughtful gift.”
