Pupils celebrated the Year of the Monkey by taking part in a school tai chi session.

More than 700 children at South Park Primary, Water Lane, Seven Kings, braved the wind and kicked off Chinese New Year celebrations on Monday.

Teachers led the session across five playgrounds with the youngsters practising the ancient martial art in unison.

Headteacher Debbie Keigwin said: “Our tai chi session had a very calming effect on children and staff.

“It was amazing to see everyone taking part and moving in time together with staff. We are very lucky to have a tai chi expert on our staff, who trained us all in the sequence of movements.”
