Children enjoy karate lessons from former world champion in Ilford

A former karate world champion shared her skills with excited young karatekas in Ilford on Saturday.

Janice Irwin, who won gold at three different World Championships in the 1990s, showed children the basics of the martial art at Fitness First, in High Road.

The youngsters really enjoyed learning various grips, and how to throw punches in karate.

They will be hoping they can eventually reach black belt, like their teacher Mrs Irwin.
