Seeing groups of children with spray paint cans is rarely a good sign but these youngsters were making a memorial to commemorate the First World War.
The board is being created by Love Has No Colour, a community project aiming to bring together children of different faiths and backgrounds to promote peace and unity while teaching new art skills.
It coincides with the centenary of the bloody war, which killed an estimated nine million soldiers.
The memorial board will be exhibited in parks across Ilford for three-month spells, starting with Loxford Park before moving to South Park and Valentines Park.
Wilson Chowdhry, organiser of the memorial project, said: “The class was well attended and each child completed their task to a high standard.
“We chose to create a First World War memorial to remind the next generation of the impact that intolerance can have, so they can avoid repeating mistakes from the past.”
His daughter Hannah Chowdhry, 10, who painted clouds and poppies, said: “I like going to the classes. They teach us something new plus they are fun.”
The memorial is part of a wider project which could see Love Has No Colour paint a pillar in Ilford town centre to showcase the history the area and reflect its diversity and culture.
