A dental surgery is offering free mouth screenings in Chigwell on Friday as part of Mouth Cancer Awareness Month.
Smile Design by Ash, in Chigwell Rise, is offering the service to encourage regular check-ups which can prevent the UK’s fastest growing cancer.
More than 6,500 people were diagnosed last year, and more than 1,800 people die every year from the disease.
Ash Parmar, of Smile Design by Ash, said: “Signs to look out for include ulcers that do not heal in three weeks; red and white patches in the mouth and unusual lumps or swelling in the mouth, head and neck area.”
Twice as many men suffer from the disease as women, and more than half the cases are linked to poor diet.
