A woman from Chadwell Heath is going to climb Ben Nevis and said that her family might even sell their house in order to raise £300,000 for cancer treatment for her terminally ill mum.
In December Tracy Akaloo, 54, collapsed after having severe headaches. A few hours later she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and went through six hours of brain surgery - whilst she was still awake,
Tracy, mum of Hannah Warman, 22, and Matt Warman, 26, had been feeling ill for a few days when she went into hospital on December 15, and following scans a few hours later she was told she had stage four glioblastoma.
Doctors then drilled through her skull to try and remove the tumour - as she lay awake on the treatment table.
99.6 per cent of the tumour was removed and the family were told that even with radiotherapy and chemotherapy she still only had 14 to 18 months to live.
Now Hannah has her sights set on raising £300,000 for her mum to fly to Germany and receive a treatment called immunotherapy.
This is designed to boost the body’s natural defences to fight the cancer - and could be her only hope, as at the moment there is no other option for treatment in the UK.
Hannah, who is hoping to climb Ben Nevis in June, said: “My mum has been incredibly brave, and I will fight every day for this treatment and I will do anything for my mum to be able to watch me grow up, get married, have kids.
“All the things she should be able to do if I raise this money.”
Her mum, who has to receive treatment every day, said: “I’m incredibly proud of what Hannah is doing, she has a lot planned to raise money, and we’ve even thought about selling the house if we have to.
“My life has changed so much since I was given the news, but my life is my family and I don’t know what I’d do without them.”
