Mixing while volunteering and holding down a full-time job hasn’t been a problem for a 22-year-old music producer.

Khaydien Anderson, of High Road, Chadwell Heath, volunteers at the Frenford Music Studio to help aspiring artists record and produce their own tracks.

He has been volunteering at the Frenford Youth Club, Jack Carter Centre, The Drive, Ilford, for almost five years, having visited himself as a 16-year-old before being encouraged by a mentor to get more involved.

“It’s all about giving back to the community, teaching others the production skills I’ve learnt that they can’t all go to college for,” he told the Recorder.

Khaydien’s experiences at Frenford led him to embark on a digital music course at the British Academy of New Music and he now hopes to share his knowledge with the community.

His dedication to helping young artists with their music, for up to 10 hours a week, has secured him a Recorder/Redbridge Rotary Club Young Citizen nomination.

Daniel Oliver, the youth worker who nominated Khaydien, said: “This studio time is all done in his spare time and provides a valuable service for young people to express themselves.”

Khaydien is in the process of training three volunteers to help with Frenford’s work and hopes the club will be able to increase its funding and expand in the future.

The volunteer’s long-term goal is to set up his own studio.

“I always want to give back to Frenford as they’re the ones that built my foundations and skill set,” he said. “When I was discouraged they definitely did remind me that I could do it.”
