Redbridge businessman and chairman of the British Pakistani Christian Association, Wilson Chowdhry, has been suspended as a Green Party candidate after expressing anti-gay views on his party’s blog.

A Green Party spokesman confirmed the father-of-two, who had condemned the teaching of homosexual relationships to children, had been suspended for 18 months.

“The Greens condemn all homophobia and Wilson is fully aware of the situation and we hope he will take this on board and be able to contribute to the progress of the party in future.”

Mr Chowdhry, 36, of Green Lane, Ilford, stood as a Green Party candidate for Chadwell ward during the Redbridge Council elections in April 2010.

Mr Chowdhry said: “I would stand as candidate again if the opportunity arose in the future.”
