Neighbours marked the end of the school summer holidays with a sun-soaked street party.

Clavering Road, Wanstead, was closed to traffic from 11am on Saturday, September 2, to allow for games, food and music.

Prodeepta Das told the Recorder: “It was organised by Maura Crady on behalf of the people living in the road. It was a good way to get the community together. Everyone is normally so busy, this was a chance to find out who lives four doors down, and talk to them.

“We’d never seen so many people out on the street.

“We had a fancy dress party, a cake competition, an egg and spoon race and even a dog show. There were a lot of activities packed into one day. It was fantastic and hopefully we will do it again next summer.”

Residents were encouraged to donate food and the evening ended with dancing to the music of the 60s and an Elvis tribute singer.
