This year’s Redbridge Carnival will be held during June’s back-to-back bank holidays celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

It is being moved from Valentines Park, off Cranbrook Road, Ilford, to the pedestrianised area of Ilford Town Centre.

Redbridge Carnival committee chairman Wilson Chowdhry wanted to bring the event to the town centre following the success of last year’s peace concert, which was also held in the heart of the town.

This week, a temporary events notice was issued for the event by Redbridge Council, confirming its new venue.

A stage for music and dance acts, as well as community stalls and workshops for youngsters, will form part of the celebrations.

Meanwhile a meeting is being held on Thursday to discuss the carnival, which is scheduled for June 4 and 5.

Carnival committee chairman Mr Chowdhry will be at Clementswood Centre in Grosvenor Road to talk about the event from 6.30pm.

Mr Chowdhry said: “This will be the biggest carnival yet. ”
