A seniors club has been awarded £10,000 to continue delivering dance classes with delicious meals for Ilford’s Caribbean community.

Older members of the borough’s Caribbean community can attend 3EMs – which stands for Exercise, Eat, Enjoy and More – at Ilford Sports Centre, in Cricklefield Place, once a month for the next year thanks to funding from the National Lottery Fund.

Centre manager Weininger Irwin was presented with a cheque from the fundraising body on Friday, September 14.

He said: “The funding will help out with our costs, help us keep the fees low, and help us provide entertainment, a meal and a raffle for one year.”

In June, hundreds came together at the centre in their sharpest suits and dresses to mark the arrival of the Windrush, and its Caribbean passengers, 70 years ago.
