A car went through a garden wall in Ilford this afternoon, leaving the driver trapped inside.
Firefighters had to cut the roof off the car, in Coventry Road, and remove the doors to get the woman out.
Her car had been in a crash with another vehicle at 1.25pm and careered into the wall.
Watch manager Nigel McCormick was with firefighters from Ilford fire station who were called to the scene.
He said: “One of the cars had mounted the pavement and gone through a garden wall.
“The driver was trapped and we had to cut the roof off and remove the doors.
“The other car had two passengers and police told us the driver had absconded.”
They only had minor injuries but the driver of the car that hit the wall had to be carried out on a stretcher.
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We treated a 54-year-old woman for back pain and took her as a priority to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.
“A man was treated for shock and taken to King George Hospital in Goodmayes.”
A motorcycle responder, two ambulance crews and a duty officer were sent to the scene.
The 364 bus was diverted and the road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.
