A car fire on the A406 in Ilford caused hours of disruption on the roads this morning.

Emergency services initially closed the road southbound from Barking Flyover to the A13, putting traffic at a standstill.

At about 9am, one lane reopened to allow vehicles to pass. All three lanes did not reopen until 11.30am, Transport for London said.

At its worst, traffic stretched back from the Ilford Flyover to Waterworks Corner in Woodford.
