People enjoying an after-work pint suffered a nasty surprise yesterday when a car crashed into a pub’s front wall.
At just after 7.15pm, to the shock of everyone in the building, a car collided with the wall of the Prince of Wales pub in Green Lane, Ilford.
Renata Lahovfka, 24, who works at the pub, was there the very moment the car crashed, damaging a number of windows and wooden panels inside the building.
She told the Recorder: “Everyone was in shock and I thought a bomb had gone off because everyone was covered in dust and the wall had totally caved in.
“No one could believe it but no one was seriously hurt. The poor woman that was driving even had some children in the car, so we called the police and made sure everyone was okay.
“I’ve only just arrived in England. I’d heard that Ilford was dangerous but I never expected anything like this!”
A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman confirmed they were called at 7.42pm to Green Lane after a road traffic accident resulted in a car being driven into the side of a building.
No one had been trapped in their vehicles, but four people were treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service. Fire crews left the scene at around 25 past eight after making sure the building was structurally sound.
