A paddling pool complete with water jet has sprung up in Ilford High Road.
The burst main is just metres from the former Ilford Swimming Pool and has filled up a crater left by works on the pavement. Water is currently running down a nearby train but will flood the road if it overflows.
Kenson contractors were digging the pavement earlier in the day but it is not known what caused the leak.
Thames Water are aware of the situation.
Kenson could not be reached for comment.
