A budding musician and entrepreneur has been nominated for this week’s Young Citizen award for using his music to raise money for children’s charities.

Aaron Floyd, of Hainault Road in Chigwell, has been busking and playing charity concerts for almost half of his life and has raised almost £2,000 for charities such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, Haven House Children’s Hospice and the Anderson Foundation.

The 12-year-old’s, Dean Floyd, said: “Like any parent, we are very proud of Aaron and we encourage him to take his music very seriously.

“But in truth he doesn’t need any encouragement, he does it all on his own.”

Both of Aaron’s parents are active fundraisers and at eight years old he followed in their footsteps by busking in Romford Market to raise money for Haven House.

Aaron said: “I feel very privileged and I am very lucky with the support I have been given by my parents.

“I have a hard act to follow from my mum and dad but I am confident that with the dedication I have I can build on the roots my parents have given me.”

As well as giving up his time by busking and performing in charity concerts, Aaron has also set up a snack shop at his father’s construction company where he sells sweets, soups and drinks to employees of the Chigwell Group.

He designed the logo himself by combining the Indian flag and the Union Jack and called his kiosk Brudders, because everyone is a brother.

Aaron said: “The kiosk is a real way for me to learn how to make money with pennies whilst keeping the staff at Chigwell Group happy.

“My inspiration in life, apart from my dad, is Alan Sugar who I see regularly at Spurs games.

“If he can do it so can I.”
