An engine malfunction has seen a car block access to the A406 southbound at the Ilford Hill junction this afternoon.

The slip road onto the A406 southbound is currently restricted, apparently as the result of a collision according to Transport for London’s latest traffic updates.

However, a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman could not confirm a traffic accident had taken place.

She said: “What I can tell you is that officers came across a vehicle while on patrol that was blocking part of the slip road.

“Officers are now making arrangements for the vehicle to be removed.”

No one is believed to have been injured.

An Ilford fire station spokesman confirmed they were called to reports of fuel on the roadway, most likely as a result of a car malfunctioning, but that there had not been a serious collision.

The slip road is expected to be fully reopened imminently.
