It was third time lucky for a car mechanic who has been recognised as the finest in his trade after 30 years.
Steve Smith, who works as a senior motor technician at Hills Toyota, High Road, Woodford Green, was crowned the winner of the Top Technician 2013 competition on Friday.
Having been a finalist in 2010 and 2011, 46-year-old Steve finally bagged the top prize, which included a trophy and a cheque for £2,500, plus £15,000 of prizes.
Speaking after the awards bash he said: “I’m a bit shell-shocked but really happy.”
Steve, who has been a mechanic since leaving school at 16, added: “I just wanted to get a skill, a trade which is always in demand and, touch wood, I have never been out of work in 30 years.”
