A bread van has tipped on to its side and is completely blocking a residential street in Gants Hill, according to an eyewitness.
Police and paramedics are attending the scene of a collision between a box Mercedes van and a Vauxhall car in Ashurst Drive at the junction with Otley Drive.
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said two patients have been taken to hospital, one to King George Hospital in Barley Lane, Goodmayes, and one to Whipps Cross Hospital in Whipps Cross Road, Leytonstone.
She didn’t have any further details at this time.
Police have said the driver of the van, believed to be in his 30s, is one of the people who was hospitalised.
The van and car are believed to have collided around 2pm with the van then hitting a lamppost and a parked car.
The lamppost fell on its side and officers from Redbridge Council have since dusted the road because of a fuel spillage, according to eyewitness Michael Green, of Headley Drive.
He said: “The [Vauxhall] car is a write-off.
“It’s been thrown away from the junction.
“The van is taking up the whole width of a 20ft street.”
