A brass quintet played as Redbridge Music Society marked the start of its 65th season at Redbridge Town Hall last week.

Formed in 1949, the society was initially known as the Goodmayes and District Gramophone Society, based at Seven Kings Library.

It is now housed at the Lambourne Room at the town hall, where last Tuesday, 33 members enjoyed the music of Alberti Brass.

They performed music ranging from the renaissance, baroque and classical periods through to Gershwin, New Orleans Jazz, and even included a rendition of The Beatles’ Honey Pie during the encore.

Trumpet player Paul Sharpe was on hand to provide introductions and commentary about each piece of music.

David Bird, Membership Secretary, said “The playing of the group – regular members of the main London orchestras - was phenomenal. We were treated to a great evening of music”

Although the event was well attended, secretary Malcolm Billingsley said the program for this season has been reduced from 17 events to seven due to lack of numbers, and urged new members to join.

The next event is on December 3, visit redbridgemusicsociety.org.uk for more information.
