A sports club was a hive of activity at a free half-term fun day.

From body sliding and bouncy castles to soft play and sumo wrestling, children and their mums and dads tried out a host of sports and games at Ilford Sports Club, Cricklefield Place, Ilford.

Manager Weininger Irwin said: “We were more than pleased with the turnout and most importantly the community got involved to make it a great event.

“We had mums, dads and children joining in, helping us reach our primary goal of getting Ilford active.”

As well as face painting, drama workshops and karate demonstrations, participants could test their skills with resistance sliding.

The activity will be demonstrated at Redbridge mini games and participants use their body weight to slide across the ground and race to the finish line.

“It is an all-inclusive activity and everyone can give it a go, regardless of ability,” said Weininger.

“It went down a treat and we had children with limited mobility join in with activities as well.”

He said the event was buzzing from start to finish and after such a good response, he plans to put on another one.

“Just look at the children in the photos – lots of smiles, everybody was relaxed and taking in the experience.

“We have track, football, and variety of classes and we want to make it the centre for activity in Redbridge.”
