A flag will be raised above Redbridge Town Hall to remember those who perished in the Srebrenica massacre in 1995.

A one minute silence will also be observed at the town hall, in High Road, Wednesday, July 11 between 10am and noon in memory of the more than 7,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys who are estimated to have been killed by Bosnian Serb forces during the genocide.

The event will be attended by council leader Cllr Jas Athwal, Mayor of Redbridge Cllr Debbie Kaur-Thiara, a number of faith leaders.

There will be a guest talk from Amra Mujkanovic, whose ancestors survived the Nazi concentration camps of the Second World War as well as the atrocities committed by the Serbs during the 1990s.

She was born in Scotland but is a proud Bosnian Muslim.

The event aims to use the example of Srebrenica to share the lesson that no society is invulnerable to prejudice and intolerance.
