A special service for a centenarian who credits his longevity to being a vegetarian was held at a synagogue in Newbury Park.
Ian Rodin was born in Stepney Green and spent much of his career working as a barrel maker at his family’s firm.
During his army service he met his wife Sarah in 1942 and now has one son, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The service was conducted by Rabbi Maurice Michaels at the South West Essex and Settlement Reform Synagogue, Oaks Lane on Saturday.
Mr Rodin now lives at the Vi & John Rubens House in Clarence Avenue, Gants Hill.
