Mathieu Baudry believed Leyton Orient came up against an inspired Jamie Jones as O’s slipped to a 2-0 home defeat against Preston North End last night.

Goals from Callum Robinson and Paul Huntington proved the O’s undoing at Brisbane Road last night, and found former Orient goalkeeper Jones in inspired form in the first half.

He denied his ex-employer twice in a matter of seconds in the first half with the score at 1-0 as he firstly saved Jay Simpson’s effort with his feet, before also blocking the rebound from Gianvito Plasmati.

And Baudry felt the saves pulled off by the 25-year-old proved to be the difference on the night.

“It’s no surprise he pulled off the saves, we know he is a really good goalkeeper and that’s why Preston signed him in the off season,” said Baudry.

“We knew this would be a special game for him and he did produce some great saves at important moments which could have brought us back into the game and that’s been the difference in the end.”

And while the O’s created some chances, the 26-year-old believed they were made to pay by a clinical Preston side.

“I think we showed some good glimpse at times,” he added.

“They are a good team and are going to be up there at the end of the season. At the moment they are miles apart from us and we are going to have to battle to get out of the position we find ourselves in at the moment.

“We gave everything and we played some good football at times but we weren’t really dangerous enough in the final third . The difference was they converted their chances.”
