The sound and vibrations of African drums filled every corner of a school in Barkingside last week.

The pupils at Avanti Court Primary School, Carlton Drive, enjoyed a performance by the Mighty Zulu Nation as part of their diversity week.

The annual celebration at the Hindu school saw students take part in art projects, a parade through the school and learn how to dance and sing in the traditional Zulu way.

Headteacher Deborah Walters said the celebration was an opportunity for the school to celebrate its unity in a “memorable” way.

She added: “We had a fantastic week.

“Faith leaders from all religions visited the school and spoke to the children about their beliefs.

“And at the end of the week, pupils led a parade through the school in their own cultural dress and we shared food they had brought in.

“It was really memorable. It’s important for us to celebrate the unity in our school.”
