Youngsters put on a moving performance to remember Jews killed during the Holocaust at a commemoration event.

Pupils from Wohl Ilford Jewish Primary School, Forest Road, Barkingside, joined children from four other Jewish schools to make up a choir to mark Yom HaShoah at Barnet Copthall Stadium in Hendon.

Guests at the event, organised by charity Yom HaShoah UK, included Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, Israeli ambassador Mark Regev and Brentwood and Ongar MP Sir Eric Pickles.

The audience also included representatives from about 120 Jewish organisations around the UK.

Among the guests was Holocaust survivor Ben Helfgott MBE.

“I was moved to tears as I watched the children’s choir sing Never Again and heard the leaders of our youth movements commit to marking Yom HaShoah each year,” he said.

“We are passing the baton of remembrance on to the UK Jewish community with a lot of confidence.”
