Children who dressed up and danced as Hindu deities were taken around a school on a chariot, as part of an annual religious festival.

Idols of Jagannath, an avatar of Lord Krishna, his older brother Balarama and younger sister Subhadra, were taken around Avanti Court Primary School, Carlton Drive, Barkingside, during the procession on Friday.

Ratha Yatra – or chariot festival – marks the story of Jagannath’s visit to a temple in Puri, Odisha, India. The procession marks the journey of the deities.

Ilford North MP Wes Streeting took part, and laughed and joked with the children.

They held up home made placards and art, and some had their faces painted.
