Barkingside crash scene was ‘a complete mess’, says eyewitness

The scene which greeted shocked onlookers after a motorbike and a car collided “was a complete mess”, according to one eyewitness.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Horns Road and Civic Way, in Barkingside, at 10.45am, to reports of a crash.

An onlooker, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Recorder: “I was one of the first ones there, it was a complete mess.”

He said the biker collided with the a silver Volkswagen Passat, which had a driver and a 60-year-old passenger, turning into Civic Way.

The witness continued: “The Passat driver was in complete shock and panic.

“He told me he didn’t want to hurt him and kept crying, even though I don’t think it was any fault of his.”

The man claimed a bystander stopped and did chest compressions on the biker.

He was taken by ambulance to an east London hospital.

A police spokesman initially described him as in “a serious condition”, but have since said his injuries are life changing but not life threatening.

The car’s occupants escaped serious injury.

Horns Road is still closed at the junction with Civic Way at both directions and buses are on diversion.
