Barkingside blooming as new florists beats long delays to finally open

Residents might notice that Ken Aston Square is busier than it used to be now that a florists has finally opened up in the once empty kiosk there.
Fully Floral, which celebrated its official opening earlier this month, is located next to Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre on Barkingside High Street.
Hattie Ozfevzi is the owner and manager of the boutique florists, and told the Recorder she was looking forward to becoming a part of Barkingside’s bustling business community.
“We had a really good turnout at our launch event and I was quite impressed by how many passersby came in and said hello and had a look around,” she said.
“There’s clearly been a really high demand for it in the area, I’ve had so many people come up to me already saying, ‘thank you, we really needed a florist round here,’ and that’s been quite rewarding so far.”
It has not all been plain sailing for Fully Floral though, despite being in long-running talks with Redbridge Council about taking up the prime piece of real estate on the much-loved Ken Aston square, the business launch was constantly delayed by unfortunate setbacks and mix ups.
“We had a bit of a nightmare getting everything up and running, to be honest – it took more than a year and a half.
“Even when we thought we had everything sorted out, it took three and a half months to get a phone line put through to the kiosk.
“There were times where I did think, ‘is this worth it?’, but I’m so glad we made it through.”
And now the future is looking bright in Barkingside for Hattie’s business, which also offers deliveries to homes nearby.
“At the moment we’re principally selling bouquets while I get properly settled and work out the patterns of when is busy and when isn’t and things.
“We’ve got some really quirky plants in at the moment but long term we’re going to stock a lot more gardening tools and other things local people might need.”
Fully Floral is now open from 9.30am-7.30pm on weekdays, from 9am-6pm on Saturdays and from 11am-4pm on Sundays.
