Bargain fever hit Ilford today when hundreds of people queued around the block for a department store sale.

Police officers helped keep crowds in line in the cordoned off queue around Bodgers in Station Road.

Products work £3,000 including clothing, furniture and electrical appliances are up for grabs at discount prices in the super sale.

The shop shut for four days so that displays could be prepared and prices reduced.

Regular customers were then allowed in for an invitation-only sale today and tomorrow.

Everyone else can get in on the action from Friday for three days, ahead of more promotions later this month.

Store manager Rai Holdstock is pledging price cuts of up to 75 per cent.

He said: “We genuinely want to clear the shelves because we have a whole batch of fresh new ranges. It’s the first time we’ve done it in this way.”

The store will close for the day on Wednesday to bring in more sale stock, before another closure on February 27.
