Resident were met with shut glass doors at the service on the High Road and were politely directed to other facilities via a notice on the door.

Customers have the option of travelling to Barking or using online service.

A Barclays spokesman said customers shouldn’t bank on the shop being open on Wednesday but they are fixing the situation as soon as possible.

“As a result of the bad weather in Ilford this afternoon rainwater entered the branch in the High Street and it was necessary to close,” he said

“We have engineers on site assessing the situation and will reopen as soon as possible, however due to the extent of the damage this is unlikely to be until Thursday.

“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused.”
