Orient manager Russell Slade has urged his players to use their 1-0 win over Brentford at Brisbane Road as a platform for success.

LEYTON ORIENT boss Russell Slade believes his side will have to build on Friday night’s win over local rivals Brentford if they are to turn their fortunes around.

Scott McGleish struck the only goal of the game to give the O’s a much-needed win to lift them up the League One table.

Despite only scoring one, whereas against Notts County previously, they scored twice, Slade was happy with his side’s defensive display.

“We knew where we were going wrong in terms of conceding goals and the most pleasing aspect was that we got a clean sheet,” said Slade.

“That’s a basis to start from and with no goals conceded it gives you a good chance of winning the match.

“We only scored one, but scored twice at Notts County, and the fact is we were much tighter when we lost the ball.”

McGleish’s goal was the difference between the two sides, but the former Brighton boss feels even he could have put it away.

“It was a cool finish, but I think I could have scored it,” said the O’s boss.

“ It was a great move and he has just put the icing on the cake really, but that’s what he is good at, in the six yard box and he has been a predator all his career.”

Brentford came into the game after the half-time break and despite not playing the way he wanted his side to perform Slade revealed the result was of more importance.

“In the second half I think Brentford tried everything and made the game messy with their style of play, which was difficult to play against sometimes,” said Slade.

“We didn’t play the type of football that I wanted us to play, but the result is very important to us and will be a definite confidence boost for us.”
