POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 50-year-old Ilford woman was assaulted on a busy train as she made her way to work.

The victim was on her morning commute from Stratford station on the Jubilee Line when the incident happened.

After the train left Canning Town, the suspect repeatedly struck the victim in a frenzied and unprovoked attack.

The attacker fled the train at North Greenwich station where the victim reported the incident to a member of staff.

British Transport Police (BTP) Pc Shifteh Mohseni-Azar said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a woman making her way to work, leaving her with a bruised face.

“We have identified a number of witnesses already but the train would have been very busy at the time and I am appealing for anyone who saw the incident to get in contact.”

The suspect is described as slim, mixed race, in her early twenties and about 5ft 7in to 5ft 8in tall. She had dark hair which was combed back and was wearing a dark grey scarf around her neck.

The suspect and victim both boarded the train at Stratford and the attack happened at about 8.45am on October 15.
