A police officer accused of having sex with a woman while on duty and being in possession of police property without authority has had one charge of descreditable conduct proven against him.

Sgt Christopher Toms from the East Area Command Unit, which covers the boroughs of Havering, Redbridge and Barking and Dagenham, answered allegations that his conduct breached standards of professional behaviour in respect to honesty, integrity and discreditable conduct on Wednesday, October 10.

It was alleged that between September and December in 2015 Sgt Toms had sex with a woman while on duty and that he was in possession of police property - a chair - without authority.

The hearing found an allegation of discreditable conduct proven against Sgt Toms in respect of a chair owned by the police which was found in PS Tom’s possession.

All other allegations were not proven.

Sgt Toms has been on restricted duties and this will be reviewed.
