The roast from Russia hit Redbridge over the May Bank Holiday with many residents soaking up the warm weather in hotspots all around the borough.
Monday, (May 7) was the warmest May Day on record and crowds flocked to Aldborough Hatch to enjoy a fete at St Peter’s Church, Aldborough Road.
Resident Ron Jeffries said a lovely day of fun in the sun was had by all.
“Many sat out in the sunshine on the green, enjoying a range of foods and drinks - the cold drinks were especially popular,” he said.
“Some £2,000 or so was raised during the afternoon for church funds and to pay for essential maintenance to the 156 year-old-church and halls.
“The latter erected in 1867 as the Aldborough Hatch School and now serves the multi-cultural community.”
