A coffee morning and sale in St Peter’s Church, Newbury Park, for Macmillan Cancer Research has raised £756.

The event on Thursday, in Aldborough Road, Aldborough Hatch, was part of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which was participated around the world.

Popular amongst the visitors was the wide range of home-made cakes and fruit pies.

Ron Jeffries, 82, of Spearpoint Gardens, Aldborough Hatch, said: “I acquired a terrific apple pie. I do not do too much home baking so to get this one was really nice.”

Ron also bought some plants for the winter and spring flowering.

Those on sale included pansies, violas, cyclamen and wallflowers, whilst tubs of mixed plants provided a colourful display.

Organiser Mary Garrett said: “The event was part of the World’s Largest Coffee Morning, raising funds to support the valued work of Macmillan Cancer Research.

“Over the years the coffee morning has been very popular and this year was no exception.

“Many of our families have appreciated the support and help given by Macmillan and the money raised is our way to thank those who dedicate their lives to this important work.”
