A collision between two cars closed Broadmead Road, in Woodford Green, for more than an hour.
Emergency services were called at 12.55pm to find two cars had crashed together.
The Air Ambulance landed in Woodbridge High School, and took two people to hospital.
Guy Kilbey, who lives on Broadmead Road, said the aftermath looked “horrendous”.
He added: “First I knew was the noise of an air ambulance over head trying to find somewhere to land.
“Fire crews cut the victims out of the cars.”
A police spokesman told the Recorder both are “in a stable condition and would be fine”.
The road was closed between Charteris Road and Grosvenor Gardens until just after 2pm.
