Students were treated to an international show on Tuesday when a Ugandan choir visited a School.

The pupils at Bancroft’s Preparatory School in Woodford Green welcomed the African Children’s Choir into their school for a special performance.

The group is made up of 18 youngsters aged between nine and 11 and many of whom have lost either one or both of their parents through the devastation of war, famine and disease.

Bancroft’s teacher, Sarah Strong, said: “The visit was a ray of light.

“The children melted the hearts of the prep children and teachers alike with their charming smiles and delightful African tunes.

“The children were radiant with hope, musically gifted and wonderfully entertaining.”

The performance came to an end by the choir and the prep children singing together with the school’s music director, Adam Baum, playing the trumpet and the African children accompanying him on their drums.

He said: “Our children were inspired, transfixed and excited by the rhythm and energy of the visiting choir.

“They showed us what we can bring to our music.”

The children spent the rest of the morning visiting classes, joining in with a dance lesson and playing with the children at break time.
