The busy A12 was closed during rush hour after a woman was involved in a collision as she crossed the road.
The 22-year-old pedestrian was crossing the road near the Redbridge Roundabout at 8am today when she was struck, suffering injuries to her head and pelvis.
Following the collision Eastern Avenue was closed eastbound from the roundabout, with traffic directed up Cranbrook Road, leading to severe delays at the height of rush hour with tailbacks as far as the M11.
Paramedics and the air ambulance helped to treat the woman at the scene before taking her to hospital. The road remains restricted to traffic.
