Prince Edward brought the royal touch to a youth charity event last week.
The JLGB (formerly known as the Jewish Lads’ and Girls’ Brigade) celebrated the achievements of more than 3,000 Jewish children who have participated in the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) awards over the last five years.
South Woodford’s JLGB is the Jewish authority for the DofE awards and provides culturally sensitive services, providing kosher food and not breaching rules of observing Shabbat.
The event, held at Kensington and Chelsea Town Hall, drew an 800-strong crowd and there was an air of excitement as the Earl of Wessex was introduced.
Addressing the audience, he praised the achievements of the “fantastic” charity.
He added: “Thank you for what you do in making the award accessible to so many young people over the years and by all the specialist work you have done in the Jewish community.”
The DofE develops young people for life and work through activities, meeting new people and building employability skills.
Youth hosts, Abigail Shine, 17 and Daniel Lever, 19, welcomed everyone to the event, which also launched a new young volunteering initiative for the Jewish community called eVOLve.
