While some dads buy a Ferrari when a mid-life crisis comes calling, a father of two and school governor in Woodford Green is content to run the London Marathon.

Carl Edmonds, of St Barnabas Road, is preparing to pound 26.2 miles of pavement for international development charity VSO. The governor at Oakdale Junior School, Oakdale Road, South Woodford, a complete novice at long-distance running, has gradually been building up his training before the big run next month.

He said: “I turned 40 year this year so this is the most constructive way to have a mid-life crisis.”

He added that VSO is a charity that is “close to my heart” because he spent three years volunteering for them on health projects in Zambian prisons.

“The experience was so rewarding and I know first-hand what a difference VSO can make by sending experienced volunteers with skills to share,” he said.

Carl is already more than halfway to his fundraising target of £2,000.
