Preparations for the birthday of the tenth Sikh guru kicked off on on Wednesday as Seven Kings gurdwara prepares for 4,000 worshipers.

Gurdwara Singh Sabha, High Road, Seven Kings will today start a three day celebration which will be marked by sermons and hymns.

Volunteers will be manning the gurdwara’s kitchen preparing langar, a practice where everyone visiting is entitled to a meal.

The tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh stood for equality betweens the genders and human rights. He is credited with formalising the religion.

Mankamal Singh, treasurer of the gurdwara, said: “His teachings worked towards empowering the common man to stand up against oppression and to respect the human race as equal creations of God.”
